Kornelia Ninova, MP from Coalition for Bulgaria: BSP is ready to govern the State

- Mrs Ninova, during a parliamentary control session a few months ago, PM Boyko Borissov vowed to reveal your informer in the Government. Have you lost your internal source of information?
- No, I haven’t. He is still there. The Prime Minister has obviously lost his acumen as a cop.

- How far have the consultations for the motion of no-confidence against the Government reached? How is the collection of the necessary signatures going on?
- We are collecting signatures today. Talks with other parliamentary groups are going on. We are ready with the motives for the motion.

- What are your expectations for the no-confidence vote? The situation seems quite unusual – a unification of all parliamentary groups against GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria)...
- Yes, this is why the impending vote of no-confidence against the Cabinet is different. The positions of Coalition for Bulgaria, and of our colleagues from MRF (Movement for Rights and Freedoms) and the Blue Coalition have already been announced. and they show that the issue of the Government’s failed internal security and public order policy unites MPs from different parliamentary groups. Taking into consideration the fact that we express the opinion of our electorate, it appears that a large part of society is dissatisfied with the work of Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov and the Government as a whole, and stands behind the reasons for this vote of no-confidence.

- Do you project consultations with independent MPs as well?

- All who share the motives and arguments for submitting this motion of no-confidence are welcomed to take part in the talks.

- I am asking you because, on Wednesday, one of the independent MPs - Dimitar Chukarski – stated that they will talk to each other in order to come up with a common, coordinated position. Mr Chukarski said he will vote in favour of the Government. It seems that this informal parliamentary group has great weight at present...

- Yes! The Cabinet relies on several independent MPs. In this sense, their votes are of great ‘weight’ - they can save the Government. The no-confidence vote will probably be rejected only by the MPs from GERB and several independent MPs

- You seem to have been personally teasing PM Borissov as your political opponent? Do you think he will appear in the plenary hall during the debates on the no-confidence vote?

- I suppose, PM Borissov will be absent again. This is his style. He shows uncivil, disparaging attitude to the Bulgarian Parliament. It is outrageous that, for two years now, the National Assembly’s leadership has been allowing the executive power to suppress parliamentarism in Bulgaria. But I expect Interior Minister Tsevtan Tsvetanov to be present during the debates on the no-confidence vote.

- Let us talk about the upcoming presidential elections. BSP (Bulgarian Socialist Party) has made dozens of nominations as eventual candidates of the party for the presidential elections. What is this – a manifestation of democracy in BSP or an absence of outstanding leaders for the post of Head of State?
- The numerous nominations are a manifestation of democracy. The party’s Statutes, rules and the technology of nominations are such. We proceed in the same way when nominating candidates for mayors or MPs. But soon there will be clarity. On July 16, the plenum of BSP’s National Council will nominate the candidate who will run for president.

- And one last question: Is BSP ready to govern if it comes to early parliamentary elections?
- Yes, we are ready to take on this responsibility! GERB’s Government is governing the State badly. Moreover, its commitments under the Euro Plus Pact and the adopted National Programme for Reforms until 2014 will doom Bulgarians to poverty, inaccessible healthcare and poor education for years on end.
