Bulgaria is experiencing a serious shortage of white wine for export, announced for Klassa, the Head of the Executive Agency on Vine and Wine, Krassimir Koev. Currently, external market demand is high. Although it is only the middle of the market year, 85% of vintage 2010 have already been sold. The export quantities of red wine are also decreasing. Vintages 2007, 2008 and 2009 are utterly exhausted. There are very small quantities of short series, which are left to mature, said also Koev. He advised entrepreneurs applying under the Programme for the Development of the Wine Sector and in particular bidding for measures relating to restructuring and conversion of vineyards, to plant larger arrays with white grapes.

There is no world deficit of wine, claimed Krassimir Koev. Besides, he explained that the increasing demand for Bulgarian products was due to its high quality. In recent years, sufficiently good grape plantations have been created. Currently, our wine has a stable share on the global market since there are no claims and complaints.

For the first quarter of this year, Bulgaria exported 10,375,710 litres of wine, or 6.6 % more than the same period of 2009. The largest quantities were sold in Russia, while exports grew by 22.7%. There is fierce competition because Bulgarian wines are purchased at 75-80 Euro cents per bottle. Meanwhile, French, Italian and Spanish traders import Bulgarian wine at the price of 53-56 Euro cents.
