Some 79 parties submitted documents to the CEC for participation in the elections

“Until now, some 79 applications from parties wishing to register for the elections have been submitted to the Central Election Commission (CEC),” announced CEC’s spokeswoman Ralitsa Negentsova, just before the closure of the registration yesterday.

The deadline for application submission for registration of parties and coalitions for the elections for municipal councillors and mayors on October 23, 2011 expired at 17:00 pm yesterday. Negentsova explained that CEC had ruled positively on the registration of 25 applications and no rejections had been enacted so far.

“Some parties were instructed to remove certain irregularities in the documents submitted," explained the CEC spokeswoman. Ralitsa Negentsova gave as an example PP DROM, whose registration documents had not included the required number of signatures.

“The Directorate General Civil Registration and Administrative Services  has three more days to check the signatures for participation. A total of 88 parties were registered in order to take part in the last local elections in 2007,” stated Negentsova.

This year the local and presidential elections are scheduled on the same date. In the period from August 5 up to yesterday, 7 parties and 3 initiative committees have filed applications for participation in the presidential elections in CEC. The parties, which have submitted applications are GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria), Bulgarian Democratic Forum, Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization – Bulgarian National Movement, Union of Democratic Forces, Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, the National Front for Salvation of Bulgaria and the Ataka party.

Three initiative committees have submitted applications for participation in the presidential elections. They have moved forward the candidatures of the presidential couples Dimitar Kutsarov and Kamelia Todorova, Atanas Jordanov and Musa Ali Hussein, Meglena Kuneva and Lubomir Hristov. Only parties that are registered in CEC can register coalitions for the elections. The deadline for this is August 18.
