Intercity taxi fares to be introduced

When driving passengers between different settlements, the taximeters of taxicabs will be switched to an intercity fare, stipulates one of the amendments to the draft ordinance to the Road Transport Act on the transportation of passengers by taxi. A few days ago, the bill was published for public discussion on the website of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

After passing the road sign indicating the end of a settlement, the driver must manually switch the electronic taximeter with fiscal memory to another tariff, stipulates the ordinance.

The draft bill, however, does not specify who will set the size of the tariff. This will probably be done by the transport company. Moreover, the maximum rates for transportation within towns are approved by the municipal councils, but that rule cannot apply to the fares for intercity transportation. It is also unclear whether a ceiling will be set for the intercity taxi fares.

Hybrid electric cars or vehicles, powered exclusively by an electric motor and operating as taxicabs, will be permanently painted in green. The aim is to encourage the use of environmentally friendly vehicles.

The draft ordinance also stipulates that the size of tariff plates should be explicitly set. Stickers, sized 150 mm x 130 mm, should be visibly placed on the right front window, on the dashboard and on both rear windows. These should include the name of the taxi driver, the day, night and intercity fare per kilometre, the initial fare and the price, charged when the vehicle has stopped, written on a white background with black letters of at least 5 mm.
