A seasonal tourism tax to be introduced

A new seasonal tourism tax will be introduced for hotels which do not operate all year round, announced bTV yesterday. This was the amendment stipulated in the new Draft Bill on Tourism whose adoption has been delayed for more than a year. The amendment allows hoteliers to declare to tax officials their non-operational period for which no tax should be charged on them. However, the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism is worried that the law could have loopholes, thus helping hoteliers reduce intentionally the duration of the tourist season in order to pay less taxes. This will facilitate financially the business sector, reckoned Polly Karastoyanova of the Bulgarian National Tourism Board.
