Tsetska Tsacheva as an intermediary between MPs and scientists

"I confirm my willingness to be a guarantor and an intermediary between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the National Assembly, including all MPs so that we can work together towards a better future development of Bulgaria,” said yesterday Chairwoman of Parliament Tsetska Tsacheva at a celebration on the occasion of the 142nd anniversary of the establishment of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS).
Her words were met with applause from the representatives of the academy. The Chairwoman of Parliament was clear that all MPs supported a higher status of scientists and cultural figures within our society, but also such that is equivalent to their contributions to this society.

According to Tsacheva, this anniversary is an occasion for scientists to be more self-critical and responsible when exchanging views, ideas and assessments on the status and prospects of science, on the problems and alternatives for its development.

In his speech, BAS President, Academician Nikola Sabotinov described the current state of science in Bulgaria. He again noted the serious financial difficulties that the academy is facing. According to him, although BAS had never deviated from the legacy of its founders - to be the pillar of the Bulgarian society, a symbol of the state system and the cradle of sciences, the academy continues to function with a reduced budget.

Academician Sabotinov explained that it was still not clear whether the organization would be allocated a greater funding in the new budget framework , although the report of BAS was adopted with consent by all MPs. He was clear that there had been no state request, which the academy had not fulfilled so far.
