Rosen Plevneliev intends to appoint Evgeni Angelov as his adviser

Deputy Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Evgeni Angelov will leave his post in order to become adviser to the newly elected President. Rosen Plevneliev announced the news in Varna yesterday. " I have worked with him in the last two and a half years. He is a young and talented man, who has done much to unblock the Operational Programme Competitiveness and related programme aimed at supporting small and medium-size enterprises," stated Plevneliev. He explained that the change had already been discussed with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, Traicho Traikov.

Yesterday, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), in turn, warned Plevneliev in a formal letter to comply with the Constitution and to avoid violating the basic law at the beginning of his term in office. The letter was signed by Luben Kornezov, MP from Coalition for Bulgaria and former constitutional judge. He reminded Plevneliev that the Constitutional Court (CC) had declared as unconstitutional the lustration texts from the Diplomatic Service Act and that a President should not assert that recalling ambassadors - agents of the former secret services would be his first job after assuming office. Kornezov was clear that the decisions of the Constitutional Court were binding and that “a President who violates the Constitution, should be released ahead of schedule."

Plevneliev replied that the problem had two aspects – a political and a technical one. “Regarding the political aspect, I have already declared that I will sign the relevant decrees that will allow the renovation of Bulgarian diplomacy," He explained that after assuming office, he will consult on how to do this in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court. "Politically, I'm definitely for this measure but technically we will see how this can be done", said Plevneliev.
