According to sociologists, Rosen Plevneliev is the winner in the TV debate

Rosen Plevneliev is the winner in the debate between the top three presidential contenders on bTV on Saturday evening. Three presidential couples striving for the positions of Head of State and Vice President took part in it: Plevneliev and Margarita Popova, Ivaylo Kalfin and Stefan Danailov, Meglena Kuneva and Lyubomir Hristov. According to sociologists, Rosen Plevneliev and Stefan Danailov were those with the best presentations, while Meglena Kuneva stayed behind in terms of approval by the TV audience because people remember her lie that units 3 and 4 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant should be closed at the insistence of the European Union as a guarantee for Bulgaria’s admission to the community.

“For the first time, we will have a combined vote for local and presidential elections. We had a similar case in 1991 when the municipal elections were held together with the parliamentary elections, but that was the time of the great wave of change in our country’s political system and people were not quite aware of the difference between local and parliamentary power, Mira Radeva from MBMD sociological agency said on the Bulgarian National Radio. She explicitly stated that Plevneliev and Popova were the leaders in terms of approval.

“There are enough prerequisites for a protest vote and a ‘punitive’ vote. In the summer, Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria did stabilise, but Rosen Plevneliev and PM Boyko Borissov were campaigning for some five or six months, opening new roads, motorways, etc.,” said Zhivko Georgiev from Gallup International. According to him, it is not yet clear whether the reasons for the protest vote will lead to a ‘punitive’ vote as well. “A protest vote is when people refuse to vote, while a ‘punitive’ vote is in favour of those who change the status quo,” explained Georgiev.

Boryana Dimitrova from the Alpha Research polling agency said the competitiveness of the contenders would be of key importance. “I wish we could choose by comparing the candidates. If we talk about political choices, we should have the opportunity to compare the contenders’ opinions and even their personality", commented the sociologist.
