Curfew hour could be introduced for student dormitories in Studentski Grad

An evening curfew hour may be introduced for the student dormitories in Studentski Grad neighbourhood, stated yesterday the Minister of Education, Youth and Science, Sergey Ignatov, who convened the rectors managing the dormitory blocks on the campus territory to discuss this proposal.

The event that prompted this was the murder of 19-year old student after a drunken fight in a dormitory block of the University of National and World Economy, Sofia. "We must draft an ordinance stipulating that all dormitories on the territory of the Sofia city be transferred under the management of the Student Dormitories and Canteens SPJSC,'' stated the Minister. According to him, the final aim is the establishment of a centralised form of management of these dormitories as well as the imposition of discipline. The Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, also commented on the incident, repeating his idea of the introduction of an evening curfew hour in the neighborhood. "We cannot appoint a policeman or a soldier beside each dormitory block and at each floor of the boarding-house to guard the drunk students," retorted he.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Interior announced that the 19-year-old student Mario Danchev died after being stabbed during a fight in the dormitory block 23 in Studentski Grad. The  involved four youths, who are all freshmen at the University. As a result, the 19-year-old students Ilko Radev, Vladimir Borissov were detained as well as the twin brother of the deceased boy named Martin.
The incident occurred three years after the 20-year-old Stoyan Baltov was beaten to death in the same residence quarter.
"Currently, there is no suspect for Mario's murder since the participants in the scuffle, had visible injuries and it is still not clear who was involved in the stabbing or hitting," announced yesterday afternoon the Head of the 7th Regional Police Department Police, Ani Petrova. Moreover, all three boys denied having used weapons during the fight.

UNWE's Rector, Stati Statev has ordered an internal inspection, which must detect whether the students had complied with all requirements of the Rules on the Terms and Conditions, on the Procedures for Accommodation in the UNWE dormitories as well as on the Use and Internal Order there.
So far, students will not stage protests since this case relates to a household accident, commented before Klassa daily, the Chairman of the Representation of Student Councils in the Republic of Bulgaria, Angel Georgiev.
