The patient fee for visiting a doctor remains unchanged at BGN 2.90

The fee paid by healthcare insured patients for visiting a doctor or a dentist remains unchanged at BGN 2.90. The Government did not approve the decree, projecting a reduction of the fee to BGN 2.70, as charged until May 1, 2012. The motives were not revealed.

The surplus charged by wholesale traders and retailers in the formation of state-regulated prices has been reduced by 2 %. The proposed lower surplus was aimed at reducing the prices of medicines. Owners of pharmacies, however, objected to the reduction since, according to them, it will not result in a tangible reduction in the prices of medicines for the end user, but can cause bankruptcies of pharmacies, especially in small towns.
