Desislava Atanasova: The price of another 74 drugs has been lowered

Between August 14 and 28, the price of some 74 drugs has been lowered following a series of probes by the Pricing and Reimbursement Committee, Desislava Atanasova, Minister of Health, told BNR on Sunday.

The price discounts, which cover numerous types of drugs treating various diseases, range anywhere between 5% and 85%. One specific medicine treating neurological conditions now trades for BGN 52, or four times less than its previous price of BGN 212. Another drug used with oncohematological patients now costs BGN 3,800 instead of BGN 4,161, while dialysis moved down from BGN 1,200 to BGN 900 per bottle. There is also a significant price discount for cardiological drugs – from BGN 39 to BGN 13. With the latest round of price changes, the list of drugs that now cost less because of the Pricing and Reimbursement Committee's probes extends to 400 items, Atanasova said.

Separately, Atanasova announced a forthcoming Bulgarian-Israeli government meeting, which will see the signing of an agreement for co-operation in health care areas such as public health care, control and prevention of infectious diseases and emergency medicine, where Israel has strong expertise. The two countries will also share information regarding health care legislation, the health profile of their population and wide-spread health problems. Special attention during the discussions will be paid to the work of paramedic teams.
