Lawmakers want CPD to be closed down by law

The founders of the future patriotic party We Bulgarians Stoyan Ivanov and Kiril Gumnerov demanded the statutory closure of the Commission for Protection against Discrimination (CPD). The two lawmakers have already submitted a proposal with the registry of the National Assembly.

The former members of Ataka insist on the abolition of 30 articles of the Law on Protection Against Discrimination. These are all related to the activities of CPD.

Stoyan Ivanov explained for klassa.bg that the rights of the people discriminated against will remain protected, since regulations will continue to apply. The difference is that they will be able to complain to the court instead of CPD, which turned out to be an ineffective body supporting "certain drones." Ivanov does not accept the criticism that this will create an additional workload for the judiciary system. "It is better to hire a few more judges than support CPD's drones," explained Ivanov.

The two MPs are particularly outraged by the fact that the Discrimination Commission recommended limiting the study of the Bulgarian writers Vazov and Botev, and that the story "Mother's Tear" by Angel Karaliychev was described as discriminatory to people with disabilities.

A few weeks ago, there was another initiative on the part of Ivanov and Gumnerov. They demanded for the ban on smoking in restaurants to be lifted. Interesting debates are to be expected in connection with this in parliamentary committees, Stoyan Ivanov promised.

The founders of We Bulgarians are also planning to propose a reduction of the VAT rate on medicines to 10%.
