Some 95% of the money under OP Competitiveness to be agreed by the end of the year

By the end of the year, we will have exceeded 95% of the negotiations of funds under OP Competitiveness, Economy Minister Delian Dobrev said. He, together with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, attended the official awarding of contracts to 85 companies. They will be granted the programme's aid under the procedure "Technological Modernization of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. After the companies made a wish for the government to pay the contracts on time, Energy Minister Delian Dobrev said that his ministry has already started paying 40 days at the latest after the submission of the documents for costs certification. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told representatives of the business that Brussels blocked €10.4 bn for Romania a few days ago, while European Commissioner for Regional Development Johannes Hahn pointed out Bulgaria as a model of EU funds absorption. The main aim of the procedure is to encourage investment in modern technology and equipment in small and medium-sized enterprises in various sectors. The companies which have been awarded a contract under the scheme include manufacturers of electrical panels and transformers, furniture, footwear, glass, safes, joinery, bottled water, decorated metal products, also printing houses and Internet providers. The project is expected to increase productivity, reduce production costs, create new jobs, enhance the companies' market position and boost exports. Many companies are planning to purchase new equipment and introduce new processes into production. So far, contracts for grants under the procedure "Technological Modernization of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises" have been awarded to 196 beneficiaries, while the total value of grants exceeds BGN 137 mln.
