Borissov: We will build a seventh reactor at the Kozloduy NPP

"There is no room for doubt, we will build a seventh reactor at the Kozloduy NPP," Prime Minister Boyko Borissov declared during a meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria, representing more than 200 firms. Borissov added that the lifespan of the fifth and the sixth reactors will be extended. "Coal-fueled and thermoelectric power plants provide enough diversification. Yes, they are still expensive, but in the crucial moments Bulgaria will be able to satisfy electricity needs because of them," Borissov said, adding that, currently, there is no market for the excess electricity the country generates, leaving it with overcapacity. "I always said that my predecessor Sergei Stanishev deserves great credit and admiration for not signing off on the Belene NPP contract during his 2006-09 term. I'll never stop reminding him of those hundreds of millions (nearly a billion) spent in that period," Borissov pledged.
