Bulgarian expert: Due to shrinking of territories, drop in revenues, IS ranks are getting thinner and thinner

Professor Vladimir Chukov, expert in Arabic sciences, spoke for Radio FOCUS on Monday.
“Due to the shrinking of territories and the drop in revenues, the ranks of the Islamic State (IS) are getting thinner and thinner,” the expert pointed out.
In his view, IS is going downhill in Syria and Iraq.
“The Kurds claim IS does not have the opportunity to even send suicide bombers anymore,” Professor Chukov specified.
“The main reasons that used to attract those people [IS members] are two. A significant part of them were attracted by money but IS does not have the substantial revenues it had a year or two ago. The fighters’ salaries were also decreased more than once. If until a year ago, the so-called base salary of a foreigner stood at some 800 dollars, it has now decreased to 400, and even less. They do not have oil revenues. They impose taxes on a smaller and smaller number of people, which is their first and main source of financing. This makes a large part of the people who came for economic reasons to leave. The rest are ideological reasons,” Vladimir Chukov pointed out.
“Apparently, IS’s days are already numbered,” the expert in Arabic sciences was explicit.
