General Brigo Asparuhov: BSP, ABV are not equal parties because ABV has too little influence in the society

“Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and the Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV) are not equal parties because the ABV has too little influence in the society.”
This is what General Brigo Asparuhov, member of the BSP Executive Bureau, said speaking for Radio FOCUS.
He stressed that it was impossible for president candidate General Rumen Radev to be equally distanced from the two parties, as claimed by the ABV, because he was a nomination of the BSP.
“We cannot be equal parties because our party – the Bulgarian Socialist Party, which we all still belong to, has been left by the ABV and they have too little influence in the society,” General Asparuhov remarked.
“I am convinced that General Radev, i.e. our candidate, will attract very broad support and this is our task for the future – to establish a broad groundwork for support,” the politician commented further.
Yesterday the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) announced its decision not to continue the negotiations with the Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV) party on the establishment of a joint coalition for the forthcoming presidential elections. BSP leader Korneliya Ninova said that her party received a draft coalitional agreement proposed by the ABV, which the socialists found unacceptable.
The BSP officially nominated Genera Rumen Radev for president candidate of the party. The nomination was officially made after a sitting of the BSP National Council on Wednesday.
His candidacy was backed by 99 out of 150 votes.
General Radev competed with Professor Rumen Gechev, who received 38 votes, and Tasko Ermenkov, who was backed by 13 members of the party.
The other front-runners for the post – Iliyana Yotova, Yanaki Stoilov, Mihail Mikov and Mario Traykov, withdrew from the competition during the hearing of the candidates yesterday.
The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) held an inter-party poll to make a shortlist of the possible president candidates of the party. Six persons received highest number of nominations in the inter-party poll for. These are Iliana Yotova, Yanaki Stoilov, Rumen Gechev, Mihail Mikov, Maya Manolova and General Rumen Radev.
On August 1, 2016 General Rumen Radev resigned as Commander of the Bulgarian Airforce after obtaining the right to retire. He is considered to be the front-runner.
Ombudsman Maya Manolova, on the other hand, withdrew from the competition, claiming that it was not fair and has been replaced by secret agreements and personal nominations.
Short after the BSP announced its president candidate nomination, the ABV party expressed its support for the candidate, too.
