PM Borissov’s rating no longer influences very much confidence in GERB

The confidence of Bulgarians in PM Boyko Borissov no longer influences very much the support for the ruling party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria), showed a survey of the Alpha Research sociological agency, conducted among 1,025 people between May 31 and June 7. The potential vote for GERB is 22.3% at present, the percentage being closer to the positive assessment of the Cabinet (22%) than to the confidence in the Prime Minister who still enjoys the support of one-third of Bulgarian citizens. However, almost the same percentage of people do not assess PM Borissov’s work positively.

Some 39% of the respondents believe that GERB’s Cabinet has contributed to “a higher prestige of our country in Europe and the world as a whole”. According to 17%, the level of fairness has increased, 14% say prospects for young people have improved and 11% believe the social status level has increased.

Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Lilyana Pavlova turns out to be the member of the Cabinet most approved of. The positive assessments of her have doubled and her rating has outstripped that of the traditional best performers - Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov. After a long absence from the list of the most approved Government members, Minister of Culture Vezhdi Rashidov has also made his return.

The two Cabinet members – Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Delian Dobrev and Health Minister Desislava Atanasova – have “inherited” the critical attitude towards their predecessors.

President Rosen Plevneliev enjoys a 39% approval and a 15% disapproval, but most of the respondents (46%) are not definite about his work. In three months, the Head of State has lost 4% of the trust in him.

Parliament continues to suffer from acute shortage of approval. The positive assessments of its work are only 9% and those of the National Assembly Chairperson Tsetska Tsacheva are 14%.
