No candidates for the airport in Gorna Oryahovitsa

Nobody has shown investor interest in the airport in Gorna Oryahovitsa, the press service of the Ministry of Transport reported in relation to this morning's media reports that a large French company wants to repair the runway and to build a VIP terminal. The Office of Ivailo Moskovski also said for Bulgaria on Air TV that no documents have been purchased from the registry, nor has an inquiry been made.

For several years, the state has had three unsuccessful contests to sign a concession contract for the airport. In September, the Ministry of Transport decided to try for the fourth time, as the term expires at the end of the year.

The concession period is 35 years. For the right to use the airport, the concessionaire will be required to pay annual concession payments after the initial grace period, set by the bid of the participant. This grace period, however, will be no longer than four years after the concession contract enters into force. The candidate concessionaire needs to have a registered share capital of no less than €1 mln and assets of at least €5 mln, as well as to have a turnover from management or operation activities of civil airports amounting to no less than €3 mln in one of the last 10 fiscal years. For the same period, the future owner of the airport needs to have had traffic of at least 200,000 passengers or a cargo turnover of more than 10,000 tonnes annually.
