Tsvetan Tsvetanov describes 2012 as the most successful year for the Interior Ministry in twenty years

Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov said that 2012 has been the "most successful year for the Interior Ministry in the last twenty years."

This happened during this year's award ceremony "Police Officer of the Year."

The Deputy Prime Minister thanked for the success of all his employees and reminded about successful police operations during the year. He reminded of 'the Impudent' who were sentenced, which, according to him, marked a great success both for the MI and Bulgaria.

Tsvetanov also reminded of the times when kidnappings were a daily routine and said that these tend to be forgotten quickly. He thanked former Prosecutor General and current constitutional judge Boris Velchev, who also attended the ceremony, and emphasised his personal involvement in the trial against the gang of 'the Impudent'.

"This year, 583 people have been killed in car accidents and this marks a decline, compared to previous years, when that number amounted to between 1,000 and 1,050. During the holidays and non-working days, our colleagues are always at work in order to ensure peace and security," said Minister Tsvetanov.

For the first time this year, the first prize "Police Officer of the Year" was awarded to two employees - inspectors Kalin Litov and Nikola Pavlov from the Drugs Department with the CDCOC, and their awards were bestowed by Minister Tsvetanov himself. The second individual prize went to Dimitar Zhelev from the Investigation Department with the National Police and the third individual award was given to Inspector Ivo Kostadinov from the Regional Border Police Directorate – Smolyan.

The first collective award was given to employees from the Customs Regime Department, and the second and third prizes were given to employees of the Crimes Against Persons Sector and the crew of a border police boat from the Regional Border Police Directorate - Bourgas.
