The Anti-Corruption Committee signals against three prosecutors
The Parliamentary Inquiry Committee for investigating cases of high level corruption has filed a signal against prosecutors Georgi Tafrov, Hristo Gramatikov and Stoicho Nenkov, Chairman of the Committee Yane Yanev said after a meeting with Prosecutor General of the Republic Sotir Tsatsarov.Yanev noted that these prosecutors were put under pressure. Furthermore, there is evidence of bribery - a long-lived energy corruption scheme in the period 2004-2007. Nevertheless, the Committee has continued to carry out inspections for the years afterwards as well. The scheme lasted during the terms of four Energy Ministers, Yane Yanev added.
"There are striking things. When Boris Velchev was in a procedure for the selection of a constitutional judge, it seems that a lot of great scandals happened at the time. The case that we filed included 35 volumes, and the expertise covered 700-800 pages, and it is important to note that Stoicho Nenkov terminated the pre-trial only in 4 days, while Hristo Gramatikov did so in 7-8 days. This is the energy mafia and the BGN 90 mln with which the State was defrauded. This is a long-lived corruption scheme for export of energy from 2004 to 2007, as it appears that, at that time, NEC provided its right for trade with electricity to the Swiss company EFT-AG. This electricity was mixed - from the Kozloduy NPP, from thermal power plants, as well as green energy, and it was sold at lower prices. This company received 8 billion megawatt hours during that period, at prices of between 30% and 70% cheaper, compared to prices for electricity consumers," said Yanev.
Because of these facts, the Inquiry Committee for investigating cases of high level corruption asked for a resumption of a case on energy exports in particularly large amounts.
"Our signal to the Prosecutor General is about a closed pre-trial case on energy export that was put in the freezer of the Prosecution Office so that the limitation period could expire and for everything to be concealed. We want the Prosecutor General to reopen the case," said Yane Yanev.
