Culture minister Vezhdi Rashidov: Money for Plovdiv’s preparation for European Capital of Culture is late

“Money for the preparation of Bulgaria’s second-biggest city of Plovdiv for European Capital of Culture in 209 is late.”
This is what Minister of Culture Vezhdi Rashidov said speaking at a discussion themed Regions in Growth held in Plovdiv on Monday, Radio FOCUS reported.
“I do not want for this delay to bear a negative effect on Plovdiv and eventually the city to present itself as the poorest European Capital of Culture,” the minister remarked and called the mayor to start actively demanding the money.
Mr Rashidov said that the issue should be referred to Minister of Finance Vladislav Goranov because he was the one to allocate the money but everyone in the state should unite in the name of the goal.
In minister’s words, the financing is needed because there is a need to secure the material base – every square in the city should be turned into a stage, artists should be engaged, and so on.
Vezhdi Rashidov pointed out that Plovdiv Mayor Ivan Totev should write a letter to the minister of finance as soon as possible, as well as to the prime minister, and eventually find a solution.
“BGN 10 million is needed for the preparatory works this year,” Mr Rashidov remarked.
